Is the Drabble at all related to your project? In terms of novels about famous women of East Asia, there's also Dalby's Tale of Murasaki, which shares with the Drabble book (as far as I am aware) a rather feminist take on the character. I'm curious about the Drabble book since as far as I'm aware, current scholarship has the Memoirs of Hyegyong-gung playing a very specific political purpose.

I just bought Julian Barnes's book, too, this week!
