« Little Jet-lagged Professor | Main | The death of the triple-decker in literature classrooms (or not) »

June 30, 2006

I saw a film not long ago about the actual last living survivor of the Triangle Fire, a very feisty Jewish woman living in Los Angeles, who was then close to 100 and has since died. What I recall most is that instead of trying to go down the stairway, which would've doomed her, she went up one flight to where the bosses were, as she figured they'd know how to save themselves. Which they did, by going up to the roof and waiting. The building, now part of NYU, is where I took many graduate classes in the 1960s.
