Virtually all the television my husband and I watch is available online, and DVDs look better on my computer screen, so we gave away our television three days ago, to a charitable organization that needed a set. We haven't missed it yet.

Join the ranks of the tv-free!

I did the same thing when we moved house in January. Our cable company couldn't believe that we really wanted to be disconnected - they thought we were secretly switching to another company.

I'm really enjoying the TV-free life - I do watch DVDs (I'm almost through the 5-box set of The Wire) and use internet for things I really want to see. It makes watching so much more active, and I have a lot more energy in the evenings.

Give it a try!

The only TV shows I watch during their regular airings are Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU because they aren't on Hulu. House, Dollhouse, Friday Night Lights, and the rest of the shows I enjoy are. I wouldn't bother watching L&O at night either, but the DVD sets seem to be coming out years and years later oddly enough.
