Has anyone ever done a history of the ironic pull-quote or blurb--that is, an author/publisher deliberately quoting a bad review to sell the book? While continuing to read this somewhat odd novel in the Hebrew Christian Witness, I came across an example:
After snickering, I did some more digging around in the journal (which Margoliouth edited), and found an explanation.
That reminds me of the Black Flag record that had an "as a parent, I find this an anti-parent record" sticker on it (the quote from the head of the major label distributing their album).
